About Genene Blackwell
Genene Blackwell is a musical miracle. She is blind from birth due to ROP (Retinopathy of Premature Birth) and after suffering from brain hemorrhaging. Genene was not given much chance of survival. Despite these challenges, the sound of music penetrated her entire being and has served as the conduit to her survival and success. She is now an accomplished singer, pianist and studio musician.
Genene began playing piano “by ear” at the age of three. Gifted with perfect pitch, she has the ability to instantly transpose any song into beautiful melodies on the piano.
Genene is a graduate of Ohio State School for the Blind and was an integral part of their music program. She is the Praise Team Music Director at Wesley Church of Hope United Methodist Church, Columbus, Ohio.
Genene is keyboardist with the award-winning music group, InnerVision, which placed second in the solo/duo category at the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
Genene is also the keyboardist for the outstanding Zayne Harshaw Blue Spectrum Band.
